Auguste FOUCHER (active at the end of the 19th and beginning - Lot 322
Auguste FOUCHER (active at the end of the 19th and beginning of the 20th century) Study of the fountain of the church Saint-Maclou in Rouen Group in plaster executed in 1901. Signed 76 x 56 x 29 cm Small accidents. This model restores the original aspect of the fountain which dates from the beginning of the 16th century, when the spring of Darnétal was brought to Rouen and more precisely to the foot of the Saint-Maclou church. The side of the fountain features "child-geniuses" whose attitude recalls the posture of the Manneken-piss of Brussels. The central medallion is surrounded by the figures of the four evangelists. The sculptor of this fountain remains unknown even if tradition attributes it to Jean Goujon. The ornamental motifs are reminiscent of those in the Galerie François I of the Château de Fontainebleau.
