Secretary cylinder bookcase in molded mahogany, opening with seven drawers, two glass doors and a cylinder containing four drawers (one with a safe), two compartments and a curtained compartment and a sliding shelf, resting on tapered legs and ringed; (small accidents and restorations). Louis XVI period. H : 195 cm, W : 135 cm, D : 42 cm Comparable large cylinder secretaries, with three drawers above the cylinder, topped with leaves or a slatted curtain were made in Nantes around 1785-1790 and are sometimes attributed to Claude Javoy ( L. Malfoy, Le meuble de port, Paris, 1992, p. 127). Claude Javoy was a carpenter living in Paris until 1783, when he moved to Nantes where he made furniture in the Parisian quality which earned him a lawsuit with the corporation of Nantes carpenters and cabinetmakers.
