[MANUSCRIT]. [ALTAR CARD]. Canon of the Mass. In Latin, manuscript on parchment (pale ink in places) France, ca. 1500-1525 Central part of an altar card, handwritten text copied in brown ink, humanist script, incipit, "Cibavit illum dominus. Pane vitae & inter lectus", two initials in blue on gold background (2 lines high), headings in red and blue, capitals in red, text inscribed in an illuminated border on reserved background, scrolls with vine leaves, besants and flowers in burnished gold, some colored acanthus leaves, fruits, flowers and colored berries Note: the border certainly comes from another manuscript (probably dated a little earlier, around 1475-1500) and has been mounted and laminated to form the frame of the text. No text on the reverse. Dimensions: 180 x 263 mm. This excerpt (prayer of the "Lavabo") was part of the "lateral canons" that completed the central canon. An altar canon includes : In the center a table on three columns contained the Gloria, the Creed and the prayers of the consecration; the "side canons" contained the prayers of blessing of the water and the "Lavabo".
