LOUS Pierre (Pierre Louis, dit) [Gand, 1870 - Paris, 1925], French writer. Set of 6 autograph letters signed and an autograph manuscript. Autograph letter signed addressed to José Maria de Heredia. March 18, 1903; 4 pages in-8°, envelope enclosed. "I wish you a happy San José, and the long destiny of Mr. Legouvé, the happy man. Become one day the dean of the Academy and add this glory to yours for the happiness of your children". He evokes a lunch with M. de Ribeaux, his social relations, he is annoyed to see his first tale kept 23 days without being published. He evokes the letters of readers "which are full of congratulations but scandalized by a certain Arab swearword that I put in the mouth of the Moroccan. I hope that this will not make me expelled from the newspaper, like the famous kif-kif. bourrico of poor Sarcey ". Autograph letter signed. June 16, 1921; 4 pages in-8°. Vehement letter in which he expresses his anger: " My work is undoubtedly more absorbing than yours, Sir. [] Your letter is entirely unacceptable [] I will write more to make you forbid, Sir, disrespectful summonses. Pierre Louys." Letters to his brother, Georges. 1899-1916. Dense and very interesting letters. Nice, February 6, 1899: "(Today, twenty years ago, mother's illness began). His novel was refused by his newspaper. "So I have no money for my trip [] I have just bought myself a French-Malagasy dictionary which cannot fail to be very useful to me when I go to Tananarive. [] I felt very disoriented as soon as we separated, and extremely sad. [1903: "It is singular how the publication of the smallest book creates a movement of curiosity around the author. Yesterday at the Bibl. Nat. my neighbor opposite at the same table was reading Byblis in the edition of Ferroud; this evening I found my photo on display on the Avenue de l'Opéra between ... Pasteur and Berthelot! Undated: "Here are the troubles that start again; what an odious job! As soon as Sergeant Doré saw on the visiting book that I was exempt from exercise in the morning, he had me confined to the quarter by the lieutenant for fifteen days under the pretext that soldiers exempt from service for illness do not go out. December 1914: "I have just heard the Marseillaise sung by a monster, Madame Litvinne, whose voice is 18 years old in the high register and 65 years old in the low. She was a great success. He tells how he entered and was immediately recognized to be placed in the front row. "The war seen through this press (the German press, the Frankfurter Zeitung) gives the impression of an honest, peaceful and respectable Germany attacked by a bunch of apaches. June 29, 1916: "It is the evening of my birthday. I didn't think I had hurt anyone I love, and no one has bothered to write me a card. I feel terrible. If I die, I'd like to say why. There are five evocative ideas. In order of age: alcohol, tobacco, coffee, opium, cocaine. An old photograph representing Pierre and Georges Louis and 5 photographs (1 photo representing him in military (annotated on the back by him in January 1893), Pierre Louys in Algiers in 1894, in 1897, and various small photographs are joined.
