HUGO Victor [Besançon, 1802 - Paris, 1885], poète et écrivain français
Autograph letter, signed "Victor Hugo", addressed to Eugène Pelletan. "Hauteville house Sun. May 19" [1867]; 2 pages in-8°. Beautiful letter on the recovery of Hernani: "My eloquent and dear confrere, I will be charmed and proud to have you and your son in Hernani, who I know is worthy of you (I know of no better promise for the future). You will have your two stalls by our mutual friend Auguste Vacquerie (23, rue Verneuil), who is willing to be the guardian of my somewhat orphaned drama. Absentee almost mortuary. Hernani's a mountain man, and I'm another. He's hated him literarily, and I'm hated him politically. I recommend myself to you under both species. See you soon. Continue your valiant struggle. Your word is a sword to cut down the weeds and open the furrow. I applaud you and I love you. Ex imo cordi. Victor Hugo."
