PARROCEL, Charles - Divers desseins de cavalerie et d'infanterie (Various attitudes of the cavalry and infantry drawn and partly engraved by Parrocel, ordinary painter of the King). S. l. n. d., (ca. 1725). In-folio, 150 hand-numbered plates from 1 to 149 plus one not numbered, 2 double plates which seem to be added, some light russeting and stains, contemporary red morocco with double gilt framing with fleurs-de-lis at the corners, arms of France in the center, spine with ornate nerves, gilt edges, epidermis, worn headbands. BRUNET IV, 387. This work is usually found under the title: Différentes attitudes de la cavalerie et de l'infanterie dessinées et en partie gravée par Parrocel, peintre ordinaire du Roy. (V. Mennessier de la Lance II, 288). Probably first edition before the letter, the copies described having the numbers engraved in the plate. Handwritten title pasted on an engraved frame. Suite of 140 numbered plates (except one by hand) depicting cavalrymen (plates 83 to 99 bis are laminated, plates 99 and 99 bis are engraved in the wash style) - plates numbered 140 to 149 depicting infantrymen - 2 pl. 2 plates (one double and one folding) are bound in the suite representing alignments of infantrymen, engraved frames. The copies described contain only 132 plates, the plates numbered 83 to 99 being incomplete. Some plates are signed by Parrocel, others by de Bercy fils. Many plates would have been drawn by Watteau according to the BNF
