LACOSTE Émilie [Paris, 1798 - id., 1879], mistress of Joseph Bonaparte, she was also the mistress of Prosper Mérimée. Set of 3 long autograph letters signed, addressed to her brother-in-law. From 1865 to 1866; 10 pages in-8°. She sends him autographs of George Sand, Joseph Bonaparte, Béranger, to decorate his collection. She promises him that of Proud'hon. She lives in Passy, not far from the Bois de Boulogne. She gives him news of Spain, to which Portugal is to be attached. She informs him that the Emperor's party was very wet and that some illuminations did not take place because of the rain. She admires the way he judges Joseph Bonaparte and the reports of Chateaubriand and Béranger. She evokes the cholera which rages in Marseilles reported by 200 prisoners. She invites him to come and see her in Passy before she dies. She tells about the domestic scenes between the Duchess of Mouchy and her husband who stabbed her. She also gives him political news. She evokes the burial of Queen Marie-Amélie which caused a stir in public opinion, etc.
