Lots 47 to 56 Antonio de la Gandara was born in 1871 in Mexico from a Spanish father and an English mother. He arrived in France around the middle of the 19th century and became a student of the painter Alexandre Cabanel and studied with Jean-Léon Gérôme. Painter, engraver and lithographer, the artist knew glory in his lifetime. Today mainly known for his worldly portraits, he also enjoyed painting statues and alleys, such as at the Parc de Versailles, where he liked to go, far from his obligations
